How To Install Recovery And Root Huawei Mate 8 On Android 7.0 Nougat

We’ll guide you about how to gain root access and install/flash TWRP custom recovery on your Huawei Mate 8 running on the latest Android 7.0 Nougat firmware using ADB and Fastboot. The Huawei Mate 8 is the latest smartphone from Huawei and come packed with a 6-inch full HD display protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 3, an Octa-core processor, two internal storage option 32 GB and 64 GB with 3 GB and 4 GB RAM respectively, a 16 MP primary camera and 8 MP front facing camera and a huge 4000 mAh non-removable battery. The guide is little tricky, so follow everything step by step and don’t skip any part.

Before You Begin

  • This guide is only for Huawei Mate 8 running on Android 7.0 Nougat.
  • Make sure bootloader of your device is unlocked.
  • Your device’s battery should be at least 50% charged.
  • Download and install official USB drivers for Huawei Mate 8.
  • You’ll need a Windows based PC or Laptop.
  • Enable USB Debugging in your Huawei Mate 8. Click Here if you don’t know how to enable USB Debugging.
  • The official update_data_*.zip for you device. You will need to find the file specific to your device based on Nougat firmware your device is currently running.

How To Flash TWRP Custom Recovery On Huawei Mate 8

  • First of all setup ABD and fastboot in your PC or Laptop. Click Here for setup guide.
  • Now after the setup of ADB and Fastboot is complete, move the TWRP Recovery image in the same folder where ADB is installed.
  • Connect your Huawei Mate 8 to PC using USB cable.
  • Now open the folder where ADB is installed, Press Ctrl + Shift + Right Mouse Button and select “Open command window here”, ADB terminal window will open after that.
  • Now type the following command in ADB Terminal and press Enter button :
    adb reboot-bootloader
  • Your device will boot into bootloader mode now.
  • Now using the following command to flash the TWRP custom recovery image :
    fastboot flash recovery twrp-3.0.2-nougat.img
  • Turn off your device after the flashing process is complete.
  • Now turn ON your device by pressing and holding Power button and Volume Down together and this will boot your device into TWRP Recovery mode.
  • We recommend you create a backup of your device’s firmware using Backup option in TWRP Recovery.
  • Now select Wipe > Format Data > Yes (This will completely wipe data from your device).
  • After wiping all data, select Install and browse to superuser_noverify_nocrypt.zip file earlier downloaded and swipe to flash it.
  • Flash the update_data_*.zip too.
  • Now reboot the device to system once the flashing is done.
  • Open the Google Playstore and install Phh’s Superuser in your Huawei Mate 8.

That’s it! Your Huawei Mate 8 is successfully rooted now and TWRP Custom Recovery is also installed/flashed.
