How To Easily Install TWRP Recovery And Root LG G5

In this article, we’ll guide you about how to easily gain root access and install/flash TWRP custom recovery in your LG G5 using ADB & Flastboot. LG released smartphone for its popular G series the LG G5 in April, 2016. The smartphone is packed with all the latest high-end hardware and software combination. The LG G5 come with a 5.3-inch QHD (1440×2560 pixels) display with corning gorilla glass 4 protection, running LG Optimus UX 5.0 UI on the top of latest Android 6.0.1 marshmallow. The device is packed with a Snapdragon 820 chipset which is supported by 4 GB RAM and Adreno 530 GPU for smooth performance. LG G5 come with 32 GB of internal storage which can be expanded with a MicroSD card of up to 200 GB. The device has a 16 MP rear camera with 4K video recording support and a 8 MP front facing camera with full HD video recording support at 30fps. But this article is not about the performance or specifications of the LG G5. Its about how to install/flash TWRP custom recovery and root the LG G5 using ADB & Fastboot and SuperSU.


Before You Begin

  • This method is only for LG G5. Don’t try these steps on any other smartphone.
  • Make sure your device is at least 50% charged before you start the rooting process.
  • Make a backup of all your important data. Don’t worry this method will not wipe any of your data but just for the safety create a backup.
  • Bootloader of your LG G5 must be unlocked.
  • Download and install LG G5 USB Drivers in your PC.
  • Enable USB Debugging in your smartphone from developer options.

How To Install TWRP Custom Recovery On LG G5

  • Download and extract mfastboot zip file in your PC.
  • Download TWRP Custom Recovery image file and transfer it in the same folder where you extracted mfastboot files.
  • Download SuperSU zip file and transfer it into internal storage of your LG G5.
  • Now open that folder and hold shift button and press the right-click button in your mouse. You will see the “Open command window here” option. Click on it to open a command window.
  • Connect your LG G5 to PC using Data cable and run the following command in CMD to boot your device into Bootloader Mode.
    adb reboot bootloader
  • Now, type the following command to flash TWRP recovery on your LG G5.
    fastboot flash recovery twrp-3.0.2-0-h850.img
  • Now you will have to boot your device into TWRP for it to remain to your device. If you boot your device into normal mode your TWRP would be replaced with a stock recovery. To do so, disconnect the USB cable and remove the battery. Reinsert the battery and boot into recovery mode:
    • Press and hold Volume down button and the Power button simultaneously.
    • As soon as you see the LG logo on the screen. Let go of the power button then quickly and press it again (never letting go of volume down).
    • Keep holding until you see the Factory Reset screen. Click through the factory reset screens, clicking Yes.
  • Now in TWRP, select “Install” and then select the SuperSU zip file and flash it.
  • Once the flashing is done, reboot your device to normal mode.

Congratulations, your LG G5 is successfully rooted now and TWRP custom recovery is flashed.
